Port Health & DEFRA
All food items containing animal products, and imported into the European Union are subject to Port Health checks. Under EU law they MUST be declared to Port Health no later than 24 hours prior to the cargo being landed otherwise the cargo can, legally, be denied entry to the EU.
Grange Shipping has been closely involved
with the import of foodstuffs - especially frozen fish, fruit and vegetables for
the last 25 years.
Through an extensive raft of EU/UK legislation Port Health,
DEFRA, Plant Health and others have the power to reject cargo for apparently the
most trivial of errors. These include incorrect routing, wrong colour ink or
markings and labels not being 'sticky enough'.
We are
registered on the Port Health TRACES and Plant Health PEACHES systems completing declarations such as CVED's and making the appropriate payments.
Please contact this office for up-to date information on Port Health / DEFRA Charges or see our downloads page.
ERTS – Enhanced Remote Transit Shed
Grange Shipping operate an ERTS on the Felixstowe Dock perimeter. It has the advantage of direct deliveries ex ship and easy access to a rail terminal.
The warehouse takes advantage of its ' Port Centric' position to legally handle overweight or overloaded containers and trailers.
It is also perfectly situated for the consolidation of export LCL cargo to groupage containers, loading Friday/Saturday morning for weekend departures.
We are also able to provide experienced cargo supervisors and surveyors who can supply email survey reports and digital photographs of problem consignments upon request.

Notice Board
Nitrofurans & Chloramphenicol tainted cargo Port Health Authorities will not allow the re-export
of any cargo tested positive for the above anti-biotics. Such
consignments will be destroyed with all associated costs to be borne by
the Importer. As always please contact this office for further
information.
Fumigation - ISPM15 standard for timber packaging. Please note that under the ISPM15 regulations simply fumigating a container is not an acceptable wood packaging treatment. It is not an alternative to using correctly sourced, treated and marked timber. Most countries will reject such containers and Lines will return them to origin at the Shippers cost.
Insurance de-regulation - Following strong representation from BIFA and other
organisations the FSA has de-regulated cargo insurance. This means that
UK Forwarders are once again able to offer insurance to clients. The
exemption only applies to the provision of insurance to commercial
customers. FSA authorisation is still required where insurance is
offered to a private individual. Please contact this office for
further information.
Foodstuffs and personal effects:
Please do not import foodstuffs of animal origin in personal effects. If any substances are found, even if they are for your own personal use, they will be seized and destroyed. Your consignment will be delayed, and you will incur significant additional charges.
