FORWARDING

The Company has over a  25 year history, experience and knowledge of import, export and transit forwarding by sea, air and land. Our services are utilised by a large range of clients - from private individuals through to multinational forwarders and shippers.

Destinations and origins are worldwide - Far East, Asia and North America with developments in the South American markets. We also arrange a surprising (and gratifying) amount of cross - trade business ie third country to third country - cargo that never touches the UK.

General

We  handle freight of all kinds (FAK) including containers, trailers, airfreight, abnormal  loads, hazardous (including explosives) forest products and foodstuffs, completing all the required import, export or transit documentation.

Warehousing, distribution and transport services are available for both full load and part load cargoes making best use of Line or Merchants own transport.

The company maintains a warehousing presence at Ipswich and in Grangemouth (Scotland). Both facilities are well able to handle freight of all kinds and we have considerable expertise and knowledge in the specialist handling of forest products  particularly  high quality paper and pulps.

Airfreight

We are able to offer a wide variety of  airfreight solutions for high value or time critical cargoes to world wide destinations.

Airfreight can often be used as a solution to the movement of sensitive cargoes such as explosives (class 1 cargoes)

Customs

Our customs brokerage service for imports, exports and transhipments is available at all major ports throughout the UK.

Staff are able to provide comprehensive and accurate advice on Customs procedures, commodity codes and preferences.

We act as the customs clearance department for several well know international forwarders and shipping lines, offering a discrete and neutral service which can be provided with dedicated telephone lines and staff.

Our customs brokerage services include:

Ø      Direct Computer Links with  all  major (and many minor) UK  Ports

Ø      Comprehensive NES (New Export System) capability including CAP entries

Ø      NCTS (new Community Transit System) registered.

Ø      Substantial Deferment guarantees available subject to terms/conditions.

Ø      CFSP declarations, summaries and scheduling services.

Ø      Arranging for:

·        X ray scanning

·        Container gas checks, fumigation and venting

In addition to HM Customs an increasing number of Government /EU sponsored Agencies now have a influence on an importers, or exporters business. These agencies include

Ø      Port Health (for food stuffs - see section below)

Ø      Forestry Commission (timber  packing - pallets  /dunnage etc.)

Ø      Trading Standards

Through our Port Users Associations we have close links with these agencies and are often at the forefront in developing pragmatic answers to some seriously impracticable legislation.

Port Health

All food items containing animal products, and imported into the European Union are subject to Port Health checks. Under EU law they MUST be declared to Port Health no later than 24 hours prior to the cargo being landed otherwise the cargo can, legally, be denied entry to the EU.  UK Port Health Authorities are under constant pressure from EU auditors to comply and implement  this ruling.

Grange Shipping has been closely involved with the import of foodstuffs - especially frozen fish, for the last 25 years. We complete CVED’S (Common Veterinary Entry Document -Annexe B's in Europe) through the TRACES system, pay and lodge the required charges and documents (Health certificates, packing lists etc.) with the appropriate Port Health Office.

Experienced and knowledgeable staff closely monitor the consignment to keep delays to an absolute minimum. Port Health will inspect the submitted documentation and may often examine the consignment to check the correct markings and description.

Through an extensive raft of EU/UK legislation Port Health have the power to reject cargo for the most trivial of errors, including routing, wrong colour ink or labels not being 'sticky enough'.

Port Health Authorities render an administration charge typically of  £7.30 per tonne (minimum £44.64) of gross product (reduced rates apply from New Zealand) and Port Authorities levy an examination charge of £79.00 to £100.00. Please contact this office for upto date information or see our downloads page.

As a leading member of the Felixstowe Port Users Association, we meet regularly with Port Health to find workable solutions to trade and Port Health concerns.

RTS – Remote Transit Shed

Grange Shipping operate an RTS  (an ERTS - but with extra flexibility) within the Port of Felixstowe. The facility is inside the dock perimeter. It has the advantage of direct deliveries ex ship and easy access to a rail terminal.

The RTS is able to devan ‘weekend arrivals’ and subject to Customs Clearance is able to make cargo available for release or delivery from the following Monday or Tuesday.

The warehouse takes advantage of its ' Port Centric' position to legally handle overweight or overloaded  containers and trailers.

It is also perfectly situated for the consolidation of export LCL cargo to groupage containers, loading Friday/Saturday morning for weekend departures.

We are also able to provide experienced cargo supervisors and surveyors who can supply email survey reports and digital photographs of problem consignments upon request. Please contact us for further information.

Notice Board

August 2008 - Emergency Measures applicable to Crustaceous imported from Bangladesh introduced. See download page for info (search under pdf files).

Fumigation - ISPM15 standard for timber packaging.
Please note that under the ISPM15 regulations simply fumigating a container is not an acceptable wood packaging treatment. It is not an alternative to using correctly sourced, treated and marked timber. Most countries will reject such containers and Lines will return them to origin at the Shippers cost.

Meat Preparations Certificate July 2008 - The health certificate required for the import of meat preparations is changing. The new certificates will be mandatory from 1st January 2009. See our downloads page and/or contact this office for further information.

Insurance de-regulation
-  Following strong representation from BIFA and other organisations the FSA has de-regulated cargo insurance. This means that UK Forwarders are once again able to offer insurance to clients. The exemption only applies to the provision of insurance  to commercial customers. FSA authorisation is still required where insurance is offered to a private individual. Please contact  this office for further information.

Products of Animal Origin - EU Minimum charge regime - 1st January 2007
UK Port Health Authorities are implementing a minimum charge regime as outlined in EU regulation 882/2004. The regulation is intended to remove 'trade distortions' (others would call it competition or efficiency )between Port Health authorities. Basic charges are:

  • Upto 6 tonnes £37.08
  • 7 to 46 tonnes £6.07 per tonne
  • For consignments over 46 tonnes a maximum of £283.12 will apply

Despite the regulation there are still small variations between  the ports. Special agreements apply to consignments from New Zealand. Please contact this office for further information.

Container gas checks, fumigation and venting:

Felixstowe Dock have announced they are closing their on-site fumigation facility from 30th June 2006. Customers will need to arrange fumigation - import and export - through a number of commercial companies. Please contact this office for further information.

Foodstuffs and personal effects:

Please do not import  foodstuffs of animal origin in personal effects. If any substances are found, even if they are for your own personal use, they will be seized and destroyed. Your consignment will be delayed, and you will incur significant additional charges.
